Frederick A. Gunn, Rear Admiral, USN, was born on October 13, 1911 in Enid, Oklahoma. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1934. He was at Pearl Harbor in 1941 when the Japanese attacked and worked to contain the damage on the ships. A submariner, he served in USS Trout and USS Scabbardfish during World War II in patrols against the Japanese. During the Korean War, he was CO of USS Mount Katmai.
